Natasha Wood is a capetonian artist who studied jewellery design at Ruth Prowse school of Art, Woodstock, Cape Town
Nature is the Primary influence in her Jewellery.
She casts natural objects like seed pods and nature influenced wax sculptures into silver by using the “lost wax casting method”.
She combines these castings with beach pebbles, shell, wood and polished stones.
She likes to achieve smooth natural lines and a feeling of freedom and naturality.
“I like to get away from the urban world and appreciate the beauty of nature, the way it looks and the way it changes, the movement, the sound, the growth and decay of natural beauty. I love organic shapes, the flowing curves, the feminine lines, the shape of a flower petal and how it holds itself to the flower, the colours in the sky and the shapes of the clouds, the feeling of a smooth pebble in my hand, the feeling of beach sand in between my toes, the soft sensuality of a touch of a feather, the repetition of patterns on a leaf.”
